A large crack in the ground has reportedly damaged a house and closed a stretch of road in Taupō.
Emergency services were called to a “sinkhole” on Invergarry Rd in Hilltop shortly past midnight on Friday.
The caller reported damage to a house, too, Fire and Emergency Services northern communications shift manager Scott Osmond said.
The road, between Ashwood and Crown roads, closed an hour later while Civil Defence worked on the issue, a police spokesman said.
It comes less than three days after a water main broke and a footpath collapsed in Taupō, sending about 800,000 litres of wastewater pouring into the lake.
