Sir John Key‘s former Parnell mansion has been left lonely and neglected by its new owners who acquired the house in 2019.
The former Prime Minister and his wife Bronagh pocketed $23.5 million for the house in 2017, although the sale didn’t settle until 2019. It was reportedly bought by a person in China.
According to the NZ Herald, the new owner has never moved in and neighbours are concerned over the lack of upkeep on the sprawling property.
Falling leaves are banked up against the gates, the garden is overgrown and filth has appeared on the walls of the formerly immaculate home.
One neighbour told the NZ Herald “the best house in the street” being left shabby was a “bad example for everyone”.
Another said it was “unfortunate to see any property neglected, whether it is here or in any neighbourhood”.
Other neighbours told the Herald they hadn’t noticed or did not mind the state of the house – saying property owners can treat their house how they wish.
