An act of kindness to a stepdaughter has cost Peter Ford hundreds of thousands of dollars and nearly cost him a $650,000 house.

On March 28 the retired Lower Hutt electrical engineer won a case in the High Court over the ownership of 36 Akatea Rd in Korokoro, Lower Hutt.

Now that he has won that battle, he has to find a way to pay the finance company and that could involve bankrupting the daughter he calls Bubs.

In 2014 Ford lent Alyssa Strangwick, who was was living in Australia and was pregnant, $70,000.
