Taco Bell will open its second New Zealand restaurant on June 16.
The Tex-Mex brand’s second site will be at 3 Shortland St, just off lower Queen St in Auckland.
Taco Bell’s new location follows the success of the brand’s flagship store, which opened in November in Brickworks, New Lynn.
In the first month of operation, Taco Bell Lynn Mall sold 18,000 burritos and 40,000 tacos.
Sales for the restaurant topped $700,000 in its first two months of operation.
The downtown restaurant was set to open before the coronavirus crisis but was delayed.
In December, parent company Restaurant Brands, which operates Taco Bell in New Zealand, applied for a liquor licence for the site.
Taco Bell Shortland St will be open 10am to 10pm Sunday through to Tuesday, with hours extended to midnight the rest of the week.
Arif Khan, chief executive of Restaurant Brands, said Covid-19 slowed the rollout of Taco Bell in New Zealand.
