Auckland tenants who erected a “huge” 30,000-litre pool, without their landlord’s permission, must pay almost $2000 for damaging the lawn.
Rachel and Hamish MacDonald put up an 8m by 4m rectangle pool, which was 1.32m tall, shortly after moving in about two years ago.
Landlord Brenda Higgins told the Tenancy Tribunal she was “shocked” to see the swimming pool on the lawn of the Stonefields property, which “took up the whole backyard”. She was also concerned about safety and whether the council would find it illegal.
