Tenants in ‘central’ Auckland suburbs feel heat of rising rent prices

• If you want to rent a house in a nice suburb close to central Auckland, you’d better be prepared to pay a premium for the privilege.

New data from Barfoot & Thompson shows that the average weekly rent for an Auckland property on its books is now $514 a week, up 5 per cent year-on-year.

But the central suburbs of Mt Albert, Parnell and Sandringham have all had increases of 11 per cent or more.

It’s now more than 10 per cent more expensive to rent a house in some parts of Auckland, compared to last year.
