Tenants’ two dogs rack up $46,000 in damage to property

A Porirua family who buried hundreds of bags of dog mess at the back of a landlord’s property has been ordered to pay nearly $50,000 in damages to another landlord after leaving the place with “extensive damage”.

A recent Tenancy Tribunal decision shows Geraint Mathew Jones must pay Alexandra Dempster $46,550 after his two newfoundlands caused damage, including scratch marks on windows and gouging on wooden floors and walls, and damaged floor tiles.
