Many Americans consider the battle for the dominant pizza chain to be between Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Papa John’s, and maybe Little Caesars. However, there’s another contender with thousands more locations than any of these: Hunt Brothers Pizza.
Hunt Brothers Pizza, operating in only 36 states, boasts 9,703 outlets in over 4,000 cities. In February, Hunt Brothers became the largest pizza chain in the US, largely by quietly dominating the market in convenience stores and gas stations. While the second-largest chain, Domino’s Pizza, has 6,929 locations across all 50 states and two territories, Hunt Brothers leads with its extensive presence.
Instead of having its own brick-and-mortar restaurants, Hunt Brothers benefits from the foot traffic of sharing space with other businesses. The chain offers ten different toppings with prices ranging between $10 and $12, depending on the location. For early road trippers, the chain even offers a Breakfast pizza with scrambled eggs, crispy chopped bacon, breakfast sausage crumbles, and cheese. Additionally, Hunt Brothers serves chicken wings and boneless WingBites in four flavors: Home Style, Buffalo, Southern Style, and Hot ‘n Spicy.

Started by the original Hunt brothers Don, Charlie, Jim, and Lonnie in 1991, the now-largest pizza chain in America remains family-owned and has even secured sponsorships with NASCAR driver Joey Logano. Despite their fewer locations, Domino’s and Pizza Hut, which follow closely behind Hunt Brothers, achieve higher profits through in-restaurant dining and delivery services. Pizza Hut has 6,775 locations in the US and its territories.
A recent survey rated the best cities for pizza across America. While New York City and Chicago usually top the list, Denver, Colorado, claimed the top spot according to a comprehensive study by Clever Real Estate, which considered typical price, the number of restaurants, ratings, and a ‘pizza passion’ score. NYC, however, did land an unwanted accolade for having the most expensive pizzas in America, with a large pepperoni pizza costing almost $34.
