According to a Herald Sun report published on Thursday, a company owned by Channel Nine has acquired Island Cove Villas for a staggering $9.5 million.

Situated approximately two and a half hours away from Melbourne, this property currently boasts nine residences, a communal swimming pool, a BBQ pavilion, tennis courts, and a children’s playground. It’s conveniently located near the island’s famous penguin parade and is described as “breathtaking from the moment you arrive.”

The upcoming season of The Block will feature a new group of contestants tasked with transforming this resort, as plans for a season in Daylesford were abandoned. Producers submitted their renovation plans to the Bass Coast Shire Council in mid-September and are currently awaiting approval.

The show had to abandon its plans for the picturesque country town of Daylesford, which was eagerly anticipated for its 20th season, due to conflicts with local residents and delays in obtaining permits, as reported by the Herald Sun. A production insider stated, “We’ve had so many successful series in so many different locations, but we don’t go where we are not welcome, especially for the 20th series of The Block, which is so important.”

Despite the proposed location receiving approval from the Hepburn Shire, Channel Nine faced challenges in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT). The network also reportedly canceled $500,000 worth of accommodations that had been booked for the show’s cast and crew.

The official announcement of Season 20 of The Block was made at Channel Nine’s Upfront 2024 event in Sydney. This followed Nine’s call for applications from contestants for The Block 2024.

The show’s creators are searching for “enthusiastic, motivated, hardworking teams of two” to participate in Australia’s most significant home renovation challenge, the twentieth season of The Block. Successful applicants should be prepared to dedicate their time to the show and will receive a cash allowance to cover their expenses. Previous renovation experience is encouraged but not mandatory.
