A derelict house on a hill that has shifted a metre off its foundations has a view of Hamilton city that can’t be bought.
Hamilton’s Lake Rotoroa to Pirongia Mountain is on one side; the city centre to Te Aroha on the other.
It would be a renovator’s dream but there is no chance of picking up 18A Ruakiwi Rd, next to the city’s water tower, on the open market.
The house is built on a reserve, part of the city’s water network and earmarked for future water needs, meaning it can never be sold.
Information from the heritage team at Hamilton City Libraries shows a building permit issued on November 11, 1934 for an addition to the dwelling but there is no record of the house ever being built.
