The selected stores, including Ashburton, Spreydon-Barrington (Christchurch), Blenheim, Hornby (Christchurch), Masterton, Porirua, Pukekohe, Richmond, Te Awamutu, and Tory St (Wellington), were chosen based on customer feedback, as stated by the company.

The expanded range, subject to weekly review, will encompass carrots, onions, potatoes, apples, bananas, mandarins, capsicum, avocados, kūmara, and kiwifruit.

Additionally, customers can now purchase a 12-pack of free-range eggs for $7 alongside the existing $5 colony eggs.

Nick Grayston, the chief executive of The Warehouse Group, emphasized the significance of offering affordable fresh produce in a third of their stores amidst the cost-of-living pressures. He stressed the importance of accessibility to essential fresh fruits and vegetables at reasonable prices for everyone.

Grayston also highlighted that a “basic basket of groceries at The Warehouse is $11 cheaper than our next nearest competitor,” urging the entire grocery sector to take similar steps to reduce prices on essential items as winter approaches.
