Anybody who decided to invest in an apartment in Berlin around the turn of the century will probably be sitting on a small fortune by now. In 2003, Berlin’s mayor Klaus Wowereit labeled his city “poor but sexy”, amid famously low rents and a flourishing arts scene.

While that’s still true to some extent today, it’s being threatened by the fact that the German capital has the hottest property market of any city worldwide.
