Shakira Scott’s mother, a real estate broker, played a significant role in inspiring Shakira to pursue her own real estate license at the age of 18.
Scott completed high school in just three years, skipping her junior year due to being academically advanced. After graduation, she pondered her next steps and was drawn to the potential of real estate in building generational wealth. At 17, while attending Louisiana State University, she embarked on her pre-license real estate course. Within a year, she became a licensed real estate agent in her home state, Louisiana, despite the common question she faced: why not wait until after college?

“I know what I want from life,” Scott shared with Fortune. “I believed that there was no need to wait when the resources were already available. I could pursue both paths simultaneously. Now I have a head start compared to others, and I’m glad I made that decision. Though it has its stressful moments, the positive outcomes always outweigh the negatives.”
Now, at 19 years old, Scott is a successful real estate agent alongside being a full-time marketing major at LSU. Her determination is fueled by her desire to achieve success and inspire others, showing them that age is not a determinant of success. She firmly believes that if you have a goal, you can work towards it, and she strives to be a source of inspiration for others.
Impressively, at just 19 years old, Scott earns a six-figure income, often exceeding $10,000 per month. In her first two months as a licensed agent (January and February of the previous year), Scott didn’t make any sales. However, the following month, she sold her first home, earning a commission of $9,000 within 48 hours of listing the property. This initial success boosted her confidence, affirming her ability to continue her trajectory. In April of that year, she achieved $21,000 in commission by selling three homes. Since then, Scott has consistently earned at least $10,000 per month.
Admitting that she initially went a little extravagant with her early commission checks, Scott quickly redirected her focus to saving and investing. Her long-term goal is to develop duplexes in her hometown of Plaquemine, Louisiana, and she is actively searching for suitable vacant land. Presently, in addition to her college studies, Scott dedicates herself to building her social media presence and educational platform. She has authored eBooks that cover various aspects of real estate, ranging from passing the licensing exam to succeeding as a young real estate agent. These eBooks were inspired by the numerous inquiries she received about her journey and her desire to share her knowledge with as many people as possible.

Scott embraces her Gen Z identity by captivating others with glimpses of her seemingly glamorous lifestyle on TikTok. With over 125,000 followers, she shares videos of herself stepping out of a stylish Mercedes-Benz, going shopping, and enjoying upscale dinners. However, Scott also frequently highlights her journey from obtaining her license at 18 to earning a six-figure commission. She attributes her success to having a supportive broker (her mother) and implementing a solid marketing strategy that helped her secure leads.
Initially, Scott operated in relative anonymity, but everything changed when she developed an effective lead generation formula. She utilized social media, digital advertising, physical flyers, and door-to-door outreach to establish her presence as a realtor. Scott’s achievements are a testament to her discipline and ability to strike a balance between her academic responsibilities and real estate pursuits. Starting out in real estate at a young age presented challenges, such as adapting to working with clients and managing paperwork efficiently. Nevertheless, witnessing the joy of helping people close on their dream homes has made it all worthwhile for Scott.
