It was once home to Australian soldiers in training, but this historic Melbourne building is now a luxurious six-bedroom, four-bathroom home looking for the right buyer.

The impressive three-storey manse in trendy Fitzroy hit the market late last year with an asking price of $7.75 million.

Originally built in 1910 as an army barracks, the brick building at 16 George Street was transformed into apartments before receiving its most recent makeover 18 months ago, Watermark Real Estate director Tim Smith said.

Public records show the land parcel last sold for $5.8 million in 2018.

The hefty price tag will see the right buyer or buyers get a 1430-square-metre block with polished floorboards, modern kitchens and bathrooms and multiple living areas.
