Tiny home

A homeownership dream several years in the making has turned into a nightmare for a Taita man in the process of building his own tiny home.

Facing a large resource consent bill from Hutt City Council or the prospect of having to demolish the almost-$100,000 build, Jono Voss has vowed to fight the consent charges on the basis that his build should be considered a vehicle rather than a dwelling.

The structure, which measures 8 metres by 3.2m and 4.5m high, currently sits on a friend’s Taita property and is able to be moved off the site “in about a day” once it’s wheels are affixed.
