A plan to quadruple the size of the sleepy lakeside town of Kingston, near Queenstown, looks set to proceed.

The proposal by Kingston Village Ltd (KVL) is to build up to 950 homes, visitor accommodation and possibly a school, on 88 hectares of Glen Nevis Station.

There are about 290 homes and holiday homes in the town, located at the southern end of Lake Wakatipu, and a permanent resident population of about 270.
