House prices have jumped by nearly a third in Gore, setting a record in regional New Zealand.

New Zealand Real Estate Institute (REINZ) statistics show the average median house price for Southland was $300,000 in July – up 20 per cent compared with $283,740 in July last year.

Invercargill’s prices had seen a 22.4 per cent increase from $245,000 to $300,000 for the same period.

Otago recorded a 21.7 per cent increase to $505,000 last month, up from $415,000 from July last year.
