Yanfei Bao’s Mysterious Disappearance Leaves Auckland Real Estate Agent Troubled and Calls for Safety Measures
Erum Ali, a real estate agent working with Bayleys Papakura in Auckland, has expressed deep concern over the unsettling vanishing of Yanfei Bao. Bao, a 44-year-old Christchurch real estate agent, was last seen door-knocking on Wednesday, 19 July, and her disappearance has sent shockwaves through the industry.
Ali mentioned that the incident has had a profound impact on how real estate professionals approach their duties. While the details surrounding Bao’s disappearance remain unclear, the circumstances have left a haunting effect on the community.
“We’re still hoping she’ll be found,” Ali stated, “but it’s truly disturbing to try and comprehend what might have happened.”
Although Ali’s team didn’t personally know Bao, the situation feels like one of their own has gone missing. The uncertainty surrounding the case has led Bayleys to advise their agents to go out in pairs for safety, including during door-knocking and open homes.

Ali acknowledged that door-knocking is an essential aspect of a real estate agent’s work. It not only helps in sales but also fosters connections within the community. She expressed uncertainty about how long the safety measures would be in place or if they would become the norm. Despite the need for precaution, Ali emphasized the significance of door-knocking and hoped that fear wouldn’t become a constant aspect of the industry.
“This is an old-fashioned way of doing sales in real estate, but door-knocking is the only way to go,” she asserted.
In the wake of this tragic event, the real estate industry faces the challenge of striking a balance between safety precautions and the fundamental practices that drive their business.
