Three opulent residences on the outskirts of Auckland’s northern region have been acquired in the past month for over $20 million collectively, with additional high-profile transactions anticipated in the vicinity.
James Doole, the listing agent for all three properties representing Barfoot & Thompson, refrained from divulging specific sales information but revealed substantial international interest in these waterfront estates situated in the Matakana area.
“We’ve facilitated over $20 million in sales within the last month, with several more deals in negotiation,” stated Doole. He elaborated that the buyers comprised a mix of local residents relocating, commonly referred to as ‘the shuffle’ to attain waterfront proximity, and Aucklanders transitioning to their next life phase away from the city.
“We’ve witnessed significant international interest as well, from Kiwi expatriates and eligible buyers from Singapore and Australia,” Doole added.
Among Doole’s listings, a four-bedroom residence crafted by architect Julian Guthrie on Point Wells Road fetched $8.05 million within a week of its listing. Additionally, a six-bedroom, 800-square-meter home on Whitmore Road in Matakana, aimed to surpass the area’s $13.25 million sales record. Meanwhile, a three-bedroom dwelling on Oak River Drive sold in mid-March, barely a month after hitting the market.
The trio of properties, boasting a combined current valuation of $17.6 million, demonstrated swift transactions, attributing to the alignment of suitable buyers with the respective homes, as highlighted by Doole and corroborated by Ray White Matakana owner Heather Walton.
The Whitmore Road estate, co-listed by Doole and Caleb Paterson of Paterson Luxury, showcased an 800-square-meter residence with a distinctive Y-shaped layout enveloping a swimming pool. The expansive 3.29-hectare grounds featured a private track leading to Matakana River’s waterfront, complemented by a six-car garage.
Embodying a blend of cedar and plastered brick, the newly completed residence boasted full-height glazing for panoramic views, coupled with premium amenities such as a dedicated entertainment space, a spacious master suite, home automation systems, and upscale finishes throughout.
While the mid-range real estate market in Matakana and neighboring Omaha experienced sluggishness, the luxury segment witnessed a robust resurgence. Walton of Ray White confirmed the recent sale of a four-bedroom waterfront home designed by Fearon Hay on Taumata Road in Omaha, albeit without disclosing specific details. This waterfront property, boasting a 2021 valuation of $8.1 million, exemplifies the flourishing luxury real estate market in the region.
