Wellington City Council buys Forest of Tane in Tawa to protect it from developers

• Wellington ratepayers now own a forest in the suburb of Tawa, but the city council is remaining tight-lipped on what it cost them.

Community environmental volunteer group Friends of Tawa Bush Reserves asked the council to bid for the 36 hectare Forest of Tane to save it from developers.

Councillors made the decision to buy the forest behind closed doors late last month. Their offer was accepted this week.
