Wellington is one step closer to handing over two more central city locations to the government for housing.
If the preferred plan goes ahead, Housing NZ will develop Arlington 1 and 3 – the two remaining sites of the former Arlington council housing precinct – into a mix of social and affordable housing.
The Arlington 2 site, which hasbeen named Te Māra, was redeveloped in 2018 in a partnership between the Wellington City Council (WCC) and Housing NZ (HNZC) and is now under a seven-year lease agreement for its 105 homes.
On Thursday the council unanimously approved a draft consultation document, which was the next step towards the council’s proposal to hand over overall control of Arlington sites 1 and 3 to HNZC.
