According to NZHERALD American fast food burger franchise Wendy’s is on the market after 33 years of being run by West Auckland family the Lendichs.
The local franchise business which operates 22 restaurants throughout the country.
Opening its first restaurant in Te Atatu in 1988, the West Auckland-based Wendy’s operates a chain of 22 stores around the North Island. Wendy’s, which was founded in the US in 1969, overtook Burger King in 2012 as the second-largest burger chain by overall sales after McDonald’s.
While most Wendy’s in the US are franchised, the master licence for New Zealand is held by the Lendich family which owns all the stores here and does not sub-franchise individual units to other operators. Wendy’s has restaurants in over 25 countries but withdrew from Australia in the 1980s.
