Back in February 2018 there was a bidding war for what was conceivably the worst house in Christchurch – an abandoned house on The Spur in Clifton that was so derelict the listing agent had to warn potential buyers of the “multiple hazards”.
But it was a house with a great view and an interesting history, being part of the Hurst Seager model garden suburb created in 1914.
At the time of the auction, Michelle Corkindale of Harcourts Grenadier said there were significant health and safety issues. “I had to warn viewers about all of the hazards before I took them through. Someone even said to me, ‘do you really want to sell this house?’. It was that bad.”
