A factory site where ”womenfolk” with ”nimble fingers” worked for generations has gone on the market in Lower Hutt.

Petone’s Imperial Tobacco factory is scheduled for closure later this year.

The landmark site at 124-130 Richmond St includes a large warehouse, manufacturing and office buildings, and dual frontages.

A seaside suburb, Petone has undergone considerable urban renewal in recent years, and a large flat site in the area was likely to draw strong interest from developers and others, Bayleys agents Grant Young and Fraser Press said.
