Kirsty Cotterill-Craig and her family recently moved from Whangarei to Invercargill.
Her husband, Sam, got a job that paid $10,000 more and that, combined with cheaper housing, made the deal hard to resist.
They are renting their home at the moment – paying $100 less a week for a higher quality, bigger house with a large section – and plan to buy soon. She said it was noticeably cheaper in the south.
“[After buying a house] then maybe a rental to then be able to leverage off both to buy back home in four or five years. There has been a lot of negative comments about down here but it’s actually lovely.”
