A woman in a long and heated property dispute over millions, says she has nothing to pay her lawyers and accountant.
At the Court of Appeal in Wellington on Thursday, Sophie Biggs listened via an audio-visual link from Brisbane as her lawyer, Lady Deborah Chambers, QC, made an impassioned plea for “equality of arms”, so Chambers’ own bill and others can be paid.
Biggs appealed against a High Court judge’s refusal to make an interim distribution of up to $1.1 million, pending a decision in the case against her ex-husband Tim Biggs which is due to be heard later this month.
Chambers said businessman and trader Tim Biggs would be repaid from his ex-wife’s share of the property.
The couple separated in 2016 after five or six years of marriage. His lawyer says five, her lawyer says six.
