Auckland Mayor Phil Goff’s $24 billion budget for a ‘world class city’

Auckland ratepayers may have to fork out an extra $500 a year to fund mayor Phil Goff’s $24 billion budget.

Goff’s proposed 10-year plan would ditch the $114 Interim Transport Levy. However, annual rate increases, new targeted rates and the fuel tax will overhaul ratepayer savings.

Sticking to the 2.5 per cent annual rate increase would see Auckland’s ratepayers pay an extra $90 in general rates as well as another $88 for wastewater reduction, pest control and fighting kauri dieback in “targeted” rates.

Then there’s the AA’s estimated $135 annual Regional Fuel Tax increase for the average motorist – the net result is by the end of 2018 the average ratepayer will pay an extra $200.
