A Queensland woman has managed to achieve the impossible twice over — travelling the world and owning a home all by the age of 25.

Jess Prior, from Brisbane, settled a $486,000 two-bedroom townhouse last month by herself.

She’s also been to 26 different countries. Most notably in 2019, she spent 11 weeks overseas, around one fifth of the entire year.

“I always joked about having this goal of 30 countries and a house by age 30,” Ms Prior told news.com.au.

That goal is looking more attainable by the minute.

It’s all thanks to her job, though not for the reasons you might think.

Ms Prior was a retail worker at travel company Flight Centre for four years and 10 months so she knew about the best deals which were “heavily discounted” for travelling.

Sometimes she even scored some free trips if she had to go abroad for work-related reasons.

In 2019, the then-22-year-old went on a holiday to Bali in January, then she went to the US in July for a business trip. In September and October she had jetted off to Morocco in a personal capacity while finally going on another work trip to Canada later on.

“That was a very big year,” Ms Prior conceded.

The young woman found herself suddenly jobless at the beginning of last year when travel ground to a halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Initially she was stood down without pay for three weeks, until the federal government rolled out the JobKeeper program.

After receiving for the $750 weekly payments for many months and not able to spend any money on travel, she hoarded a trove of savings.

Then she was made redundant in November.

By a twist of fate, this turned out to be a good thing.

She received a whopping five year redundancy payout which pushed her savings over the line and turned her into a homeowner.
