2018 is set to be the year that those in what demographer Bernard Salt calls the Mel Gibson generation “cash in their chips” on Sydney’s housing market and move to the coast.
In a range of forecasts that include Westmead becoming a hot spot “when the hipsters discover it”, Mr Salt said, despite the chill that hit Sydney property late last year, homeowners from Killara to Bankstown stood to “make a killing”.
The man who first predicted the sea change trend in his book The Big Shift, published 17 years ago, expects it to gather pace in 2018.
