Hollywood star Cate Blanchett and her playwright/director husband Andrew Upton have put their Melbourne property on the market, with a price range of $2.25 million to $2.45 million.
So long Sydney, it’s been lucrative: Cate Blanchett sells in The Astor
Located in the coveted area of Prahran, the residence reflects the sophistication of the Oscar-winning actor herself, nestled right next to Victoria Gardens.
They’ve owned this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home since 2006, when records indicate they acquired it for $745,000. Remodeled by Alwill Architecture, the property spans two levels and features a modern stone and stainless steel kitchen, an airy open-plan living and dining area leading out to a deck and garden, and an upstairs loft-style living space.
Notable amenities include a water tank, solar panels, a European laundry, and a designated parking space, along with direct access to the park through a rear gate.
Listing agents Rae Mano, Jamie Mi, and Ada Taylor from Kay & Burton declined to comment on the listing. The property is slated for auction on March 9.
Blanchett, who hails from Melbourne, has a familial connection to the area, with her mother June maintaining a nearby unit that was last available for rent last year.
The couple’s real estate journey began with a one-bedroom apartment in Sydney’s Coogee in 1996, before upgrading to a two-bedroom unit in the same suburb.
CELEBRITY: How Cate Blanchett rose through the property ranks
In 2004, they purchased a mansion in Hunters Hill for $10 million, underwent extensive renovations, and eventually sold it in 2017 for $18 million.
After relocating to the United Kingdom, they acquired a historic English manor for £3 million ($5.8 million) in the same year. However, they held onto a Sydney property in the CBD until 2020, when they sold it, retaining only an investment apartment in the New South Wales capital.
