The news renters want to hear

  • IT’S THE good news renters wanted to hear — nationwide rents are easing and experts believe they could continue to soften.

According to the CoreLogic’s May Rent Review, annual rents fell by a modest 0.3 per cent with combined capital city rental rates currently sitting at $489 a week for houses and $469 a week for units. The combined capital city dwelling (that’s houses and units combined) median now sits at $486 a week.

But the great rental divide is clearer when each city is taken into account. In Sydney the median dwelling rent is $600 a week compared with the cheapest capital city in which to rent a home, Hobart where the figure is a far more humble $355 a week.
