A family who had been searching for a new home for four years without luck finally secured their dream home after “fine tuning” their approach on what was a busy weekend for sales.

Once frustrated house hunters are finally nabbing their dream homes as the coronavirus pandemic pulls Sydney’s skyrocketing auction market back down to earth.

There were nearly 540 auctions scheduled for the week and about 65 per cent were expected to clear based on preliminary data. This represented stable auction conditions and an end to the pressure cooker sales climate recorded before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

Among the buyers who benefited from the more balanced market was an inner west couple who had been seeking a new home for nearly four years. They ended their long search Saturday after securing a Stanmore fixer upper at auction.

Richmond Alcorn and Lowana Corrion were among seven bidders who registered for the auction of the Stanmore property on Stanmore Rd and paid $1.475 million. The price was $175,000 over the reserve and $405,000 above the opening bid received by auctioneer James Keenan.
