The property market has been running hot all year but a Sydney penthouse had the most cash splashed on it, while exclusive suburbs also topped the list.
An eye watering $60 million was splashed on a penthouse in Sydney making the purchase the biggest property sale across Australia in 2021.
Rich lister garbo and yacht broker Ian Malouf was the one to purchase the luxury penthouse at the record price, which is located in the ANZ tower at 163 Castlereagh Street in Sydney.
Its believed to be the highest price paid for a completed penthouse in Australia and was the family home of property developer John Boyd and his wife Marly, with rumours it included a built-in floor-to-ceiling wine fridge in the entrance hall.
Described as a “sky mansion”, it spans three levels and consists of four bedrooms, while it also has its own private car park and express lift, along with a rooftop pool.

Unobstructed views stretch out to Sydney Tower and it has a private rooftop level featuring a cabana lounge and pool, while it was also used for filming as part of television drama series Between Two Worlds.
Sydney scored some of the biggest sales across the year particularly in the exclusive suburb of Point Piper.
While the real estate agent in charge remained tight lipped, sources confirmed that the designer home owned by the Sydney Football chairman Scott Barlow and his wife Alina sold for about $40 million in April, a whopping price considering it’s not even on the water.

The luxury four-level home was built by the Barlows, who purchased the block of land for $8.8 million back in 2010.
The Point Piper home includes views of Double Bay, the Harbour Bridge and Opera House from the living area while there’s also a double-height library space.
Reports claim that Macquarie Bank’s top-earning commodities executive Nick O’Kane snapped up the mansion.
In a nod to the ridiculous Sydney real estate market, a vintage boat shed in Point Piper that sits on 1973 sqm of premier deep waterfront was also a topseller in 2021 raking in a massive $38.5 million for the sale.
The land has no house on site, but the boat shed and pool area was argued to be the best privately owned water facilities in the Sydney Harbour region.
The upper level of the shed had been customised as easy-care, single level, apartment style accommodation featuring high ceilings, a generous open plan living and dining and a timber topped gas kitchen.
