The mysteriously private Woollahra mansion Woodlands — owned by a former Crown Casino boss and the Sydney residence of Chris Hemsworth and Elton John — is rumoured to have sold for more than $30m.

The eight-bedroom Colonial residence, built in the late 1880s on a 1,567sqm block, has been owned by James Packer’s former right-hand man Rob Rankin, and his wife, Paula, since 2003 when they paid $6,825,000.

But Rankin, who was based in Hong Kong as the managing director of telecommunications, media and technology for UBS Warburg at the time of the purchase, was the Crown chairman between 2014-2017 and is now in London as a Partner at Altero Capital, and his wife have mostly used it as a high-end rental.

Hemsworth, with wife Elsa Pataky, and their family were renting the walled and hugely private Wallaroy Rd estate early last year.

Other residents have included Australia’s richest garbo, Ian Malouf, who went on a $110m spending spree last year when he bought a $30m+ Double Bay beachfront; developer John Boyd’s $60m penthouse and a Palm Beach getaway for about $20m.

The property has been quietly listed for the past few years, with the rumour mill suggesting The Agency’s Ben Collier and buyer’s agent Simon Cohen were showing buyers through the home.

Neither were picking up their phones at the time of publication, though my sources say the deal has been done.

Since the property was listed off-market, no pictures of the home beyond the walls are available, though the home was extended and a pool added in 2008.
