In the hit renovation show The Block contestants compete to produce the most profitable property flip, pocketing the capital gain above reserve price for their winnings, which can range from nothing to last year’s record high $1.58 million.

Not bad, until you realise that as filming kicked off on season 19 this week host Shelley Craft had just scored $9 million for her own most recent home project.

The serial home flipper settled on the sale of her Byron Bay home after a year-long exchange to the corporate interests of Sydney’s Phoebe Neylon, wife of tech industry veteran Sean Neylon, founding director of Australia’s first listed internet media company, LibertyOne.

The sale was negotiated after an off-market campaign by Craft’s real estate agent husband Christian Sergiacomi, owner of the Pacifico Property agency that shares the name of the couple’s Belongil Beach home, Pacifico House.

Admittedly, Craft and Sergiacomi had more than the usual 12 weeks that contestants are given on The Block, which airs on Nine, owner of this masthead.

The couple had purchased the property as land only in 2017 for $1.35 million, but work didn’t commence until early 2020 to a design by architect Paul Uhlmann and was completed late that year in the style of what Craft describes as a “deconstructed factory” with interiors by Jase Sullivan.

Craft has a decent record of house flips in the Byron area, of which her most recent was the Palm Springs-style house purchased in 2017 for $3 million and sold two years later for $4.9 million.

The couple have also started work on their next “forever home” at Suffolk Park, where their “Casa Pacifico” was purchased early last year for $1.8 million and is set to be redesigned into an Italian-style farmhouse.
