Former NRL golden boy Jarryd Hayne’s legal costs have continued to strip away his wealth, as he faces further jail time following a guilty verdict in his sexual assault trial.

It’s been more than four years since Hayne was charged with the sexual assault of a woman in NSW’s Hunter Valley in 2018.

Hayne always maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

However a jury handed down a verdict of guilty on both counts at the Sydney’s District Court on Tuesday.

As legal costs continued to mount, the former Parramatta Eel fullback has offloaded a large proportion of a once sizeable property portfolio.

In May 2021, Hayne was found guilty and jailed over the sexual assault with reports emerging that he directed real estate agents to sell one of his investment apartments in Parramatta from his prison cell.

His conviction appeal was upheld in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal in February 2022 with Hayne released from prison.

Hayne’s property portfolio peaked in 2013 with investments across Sydney’s eastern suburbs as well as two apartments in Parramatta.

It was a strong year for Hayne, buying an investment terrace in Darlinghurst for $1.58m and another terrace in Paddington for $1.1 million.

At the height of his NRL career, the two time Dally M winner had built a property portfolio worth $5m, including a Umina Beach cottage he bought for his mum back in 2010 for $388,750.

In 2020, he received council approval to spend $80,000 on a granny flat at the property.

Hayne’s selling spiral started in 2015 when he sold his first Sydney home after quitting the NRL to chase his short-lived American football dream.

He sold a two-storey terrace in Sutherland Street St Peters for $995,000, making a healthy profit at the time after buying it in 2007 for $527,500.

Two years later he sold his Paddington terrace, well known for its pink door, for $2.85m after moving to Queensland to play with the Gold Coast Titans.

In 2019, he offloaded his West Ave Darlinghurst investment terrace.

The first step in any selling journey is a carefully considered decision to put a property on the market. Meet Adam and Lisa Salemme, a young couple who are thinking about selling their family home – but how do you make that decision?

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom 1890s property, which Hayne paid $1.58m for in 2013, sold for $2.2m.

The last sale was during his stint behind bars in 2021 when he instructed agents to sell one of his investment apartments in Parramatta.

The 17th floor apartment, in the Koi complex on George St, sold for $670,000.

Hayne initially bought it off the plan for $605,000 in 2013, along with a second apartment in the same complex for $600,000.
