A beloved Chiswick house, which had fallen into a state of disrepair, was recently purchased for over $7 million by a new owner. The sale of this property was tinged with mixed emotions for the owner’s children, as the house, located by the Parramatta River and constructed by their late father, was sold as part of his deceased estate.
The property, situated at 16A Chiswick Street and spanning 898 square meters along the riverfront, was successfully auctioned for $7.21 million on October 28, as reported by Ray White’s weekly auction update. A crowd of 70 spectators gathered to witness auctioneer Alex Pattaro from Ray White officiate the sale, while the transaction was facilitated by lead agent Mario Carbone from Ray White Drummoyne.
Carbone noted, “The property was a deceased estate and had been in the same family for more than 60 years but had fallen into disrepair.” He added, “The family is very happy, but of course, it’s a bittersweet sale as their father had built the house, and it was their family home.”
Despite its deteriorated state, the 1950s house was described as having “solid bones” in the listing. With its generous 898-square-meter plot of land and the added advantage of being situated by the waterside in Australia’s most expensive capital city, the new owner intends to develop the property. The lower level of the house, on a battle-axe block, is self-contained and boasts five bedrooms.
The property was promoted for its potential as a dream development project, but it also held cherished memories for the owner’s family. Photographs obtained by Yahoo Lifestyle showcased the grandeur of this Mediterranean-style mansion, located on one of Sydney’s most exclusive streets in Vaucluse. Schools, parks, and the ferry wharf are all conveniently within walking distance from the property.
