After 11 years of globe-trotting as a cricket player, David Warner‘s retirement decision appears to have been influenced by the creation of his ultimate retirement abode. Located in Maroubra, Sydney’s southeastern suburbs, the opulent home, meticulously planned and constructed over six years, has proven to be well worth the anticipation.

Having grown up in the area, both David and his wife, Candice Warner, now provide their children with a similar upbringing. Designed by architect Rolf Ockert and featuring in the list of NSW’s best homes of 2023, the luxurious residence spans seven floors, boasts a private beach, breathtaking ocean views, and even houses a dedicated man cave for the retired opening batsman’s memorabilia and extensive bat collection.

Acquired in 2015 for $3.9 million, the Warners demolished the existing structure on the 892 sq m site to make way for their dream home. Noteworthy features of the residence include seamless living, a harmonious flow between rooms, areas catering to each family member’s preferences, and an exceptional design that effortlessly integrates the warm weather into the home.
According to interior designer Alexandra Kidd, who worked on the project, the goal was to capture the essence of luxury and sophistication experienced in the world’s finest hotels. Simultaneously, the design maintains a comfortable beach house vibe, allowing the Warners to unwind effortlessly after a day at the beach.

The property, if put on the market today, could potentially challenge the suburb price record of $18.45 million set in March the previous year for a clifftop home not far north of the Warners’ residence. Positioned a bay or two away from tech entrepreneur Fred Schebesta’s unique ‘Coogee Castle,’ the Warner’s home shares proximity with one of Maroubra’s noteworthy properties, reflecting the area’s rising property values, with the median house price currently standing at $2.82 million—a notable 8.5% increase over the past 12 months, according to PropTrack.
