The historic location in Sydney where Australians first savored the delectable flavors of KFC is now available for purchase. Situated at 272-274 Woodville Rd in Guildford, Western Sydney, this site holds the distinction of being home to the nation’s inaugural Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) establishment, which opened its doors in 1968.
Initiated by Canadian Bob Lapointe merely four years after KFC‘s founder, Colonel Harland David Sanders, sold the company to a consortium of investors for $2 million, this establishment was staffed by 25 dedicated individuals.
Colonel Sanders, the visionary who kickstarted the chain by serving southern fried chicken to the people of Kentucky during the 1930s, has remained the enduring face of the brand, even following his demise in 1980. Over time, the Guildford service center transitioned from being the beloved KFC restaurant and Pizza Hut hub to its current incarnation, as acquired by the present owners in 2009, who transformed it into a comprehensive service center.
While it no longer hosts KFC, the property now features an Oporto drive-through, Cheesecake Shop, Piccolo Me Café, and a kebab eatery, all in close proximity to the 7-Eleven service station, which remains open for business 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The marketing of this property is being handled by Joseph Assaf, Peter Vines, and Victor Sheu of Ray White Commercial Western Sydney.
Mr. Assaf highlighted the strategic location of the site within one of Western Sydney’s pivotal areas, with a daily traffic flow exceeding 50,000 vehicles and excellent access to major arterial roads. He also noted the high-growth potential of the precinct, anticipating a substantial population increase in the area.
“The property is anchored by a 7-Eleven petrol station, a chain boasting more than 700 locations nationwide,” he added. “The center boasts a diverse and established tenant mix, ensuring stable income streams, with a net annual income exceeding $673,000.”

While service station investment reached a peak in sales volume in 2022, totaling $1.07 billion, it experienced a decline in 2023, with only $154.4 million recorded in the first half of the year.
The site on Woodville Rd, Guildford last sold for $2.5m before it was turned into a service centre.
The service centre is at 272-274 Woodville Rd in Guildford.
