Lead agent Courtney Maguire has proven to be just as formidable in the realm of real estate as she was at the legal caper.
The former lawyer, who co-owns Place Estate Agents Kangaroo Point in Brisbane with her husband Simon Caulfield, specialises in luxury and off-the-plan properties. She also lives and breathes her local area, known for its iconic, heritage-listed Story Bridge over the Brisbane River.
When Maguire is not achieving the sales that rank her among the top agents in Queensland, and setting records, you can find her running along the cliffs in her beloved Kangaroo Point before – or after – a dose of good food and wine at the Story Bridge Hotel.
How and why did you make the switch from being a lawyer to becoming a real estate agent?
“My husband, Simon Caulfield, turned up at our firm one day, and I said, ‘What are you doing here?’ and he said, ‘I’m here to sell the home of one of your managing partners’. And I thought, ‘Surely I can do that’.
“I think it was a cross-over between him encroaching on my work as a lawyer and me realising I could definitely do what he was doing. He had opened the Place Kangaroo Point office and, with the relationships I had, I decided then it was a good opportunity to move across and harness the skills that I had learnt as a lawyer, and the trust I had with my former colleagues.”
