Horry County, S.C. (WBTW) — An investigation is underway by Horry County police following a disturbing incident reported by a Grand Strand realtor. Chris Koppel, the team leader for CK Properties, recounted how she answered a FaceTime call, anticipating a business-related discussion, only to be confronted with an unknown naked man on her screen.

As detailed in the police report, the man, wearing only a hat, engaged in inappropriate acts and made several sexual gestures during the call. Koppel, alarmed by the incident, expressed concern for the safety of women in the real estate profession, acknowledging the potential dangers associated with the field.

The incident occurred on a Saturday, and Koppel took immediate action by recording the encounter, filing a police report, and sharing a screenshot of the perpetrator on Facebook. Upon doing so, she discovered that this particular individual had targeted other female realtors.

The origin of the FaceTime call remains unknown, as the email address associated with the caller indicated a company located outside the United States. It is uncertain whether the email address used was legitimate.

In response to the incident, Koppel’s proactive approach has prompted a broader conversation within the real estate community. Penny Boling, a rental agency owner, highlighted their existing safety policy called “For Warn,” provided by the Coastal Carolina Association of Realtors. This tool allows realtors to input a lead’s phone number, providing details for added security during interactions.

Boling, a female broker-owner, emphasized the differences in safety policies for women in the industry. She mentioned the practice of collecting driver’s licenses for verification during buyer or seller meetings and occasionally offering self-defense classes to her realtors. Additionally, Boling revealed that she has provided concealed weapon permits to agents, both male and female, with a significant percentage currently holding permits.

Despite these safety measures, the police investigation into the incident involving the naked man on FaceTime is ongoing, with no additional information available about the suspect at this time.
