The four-bedroom, three-bathroom property was passed in on a $3.95 million vendor bid at auction on Saturday, according to Domain
The property garnered considerable international attention, with potential buyers from as far as Greece and France expressing interest in this Eastern Suburbs gem. However, despite the substantial interest, a sale did not materialize.
Thorpe had acquired the property for $2.75 million in 2017 and had listed it with an asking price of $3.7 million through Black Diamondz agents, Courtney Wong and Monika Tu. The townhouse is situated within a historic 1860s mansion, representing a downsizing move for the Olympic champion.
Courtney Wong, the letting agent, had praised the residence, describing it as the “best one in the building” due to its secluded location away from the street. Despite its $3.7 million price tag, Wong suggested that the unit could serve as an ideal “stepping stone” for individuals unable to afford a house.
The 216 square meter home boasts a modern and spacious design, featuring an open-plan living area with large sliding doors that lead to a courtyard. The property’s description highlights its appeal as a private oasis, blending modern architectural design with a serene, leafy backdrop. It offers sweeping treetop views, a sun-drenched pool within a secure complex, and a sunny North Facing aspect. Additionally, the residence includes a separate home office or potential fourth bedroom, catering to those working from home, and coveted double parking.
