Sad reality of wealthy suburbs

WHEN Sydney woman Amy Jackson and her wife Lucy bought their first home together last year in the inner-west suburb of Erskineville, the large gay community was a key factor in their decision.

Like many in the LGBTQI community, the newly married couple paid a significant premium to live in a place where they feel welcome.

“The inner-west — Newtown, Erskineville, Enmore — is obviously known for quite a high number of gay families, diversity and acceptance of all different types of people,” the 32-year-old packaging company sales manager said.
