Waiting until Spring to list their latest project has proven to be a wise decision for Drew and Larissa Ezzy, as they have just achieved a record-breaking sale in a modest Brisbane suburb. Their newly built home, which had been eagerly snapped up by a local buyer in a mere 12 hours, has set a new benchmark for the area.

“We couldn’t believe it,” exclaimed Mr. Ezzy. “It didn’t even make it to the first open house; it was incredible! We were waiting for Spring to list it because we knew that was probably the best time to launch.”

This remarkable achievement came in the form of a five-bedroom, three-bathroom house located at 61 Prince St, Virginia, which fetched an impressive $2.45 million. The previous highest sale in the suburb was back in December 2021 when a house in Royal Street sold for $2.285 million. The Ezzys had originally purchased the property for $1.05 million in 2021 and subsequently embarked on a significant reconstruction.

The selling agent, Tyson Clarke of Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty, shared that the property was swiftly acquired by a local buyer who wasted no time in making a cash unconditional offer. “It was listed online on Wednesday afternoon and sold by lunchtime the following day,” remarked Mr. Clarke. “Someone from Canberra was determined to buy it and even planned to fly in, but he didn’t get the chance.”

These impressive results come amidst new statistics from PropTrack, indicating that new property listings in Brisbane have declined by over 10 percent compared to the same period last year, intensifying competition among buyers.

How Brisbane became Australia’s new property darling

While the Ezzys have been actively buying, renovating, and selling properties for profit for the past eight years, they contemplated keeping this particular house as their forever home. “It’s a very comfortable, charming house with that classic Queenslander feel,” Mr. Ezzy noted. “However, I don’t want to keep working until I’m 70. We initially thought Virginia was just an industrial area, but when a corner block became available behind Wavell Heights, we saw the potential for a lucrative project.”

Buoyed by their latest success, they have decided to undertake their next project in Virginia.
