Adrian Portelli, known as ‘Mr. Lambo,’ has shared his rationale behind bidding $100,000 against himself during The Block auctions on Sunday night. He had initially bid $4.2 million on Eliza and Liberty’s property, and then he surprised everyone by bidding against himself, a unique occurrence on the show.

Fans of the show have criticised Adrian for outbidding himself on sisters Eliza and Liberty’s property
During an interview with Daily Mail Australia at the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, Adrian explained that the move was all in good fun. He noticed that potential bidders were consulting their clients, so he raised his bid to deter the competition.
“It’s all fun and games,” he emphasized. “At the end of the day, the contestants are the ones that are getting the money. They’ve worked hard over the last three months… if I wasn’t there, they wouldn’t have won as much money… I’m very proud to be able to give them that opportunity.”
Adrian clarified that his involvement in the auctions was driven by personal reasons and also served as a marketing strategy for him.
Regarding the criticism he received for outbidding himself, he had a straightforward response for his detractors, asserting, “At the end of the day, you do what you want with your money, and I’ll do what I want with my money.”
Numerous fans of The Block expressed their disapproval of Adrian’s bidding move, particularly outbidding himself and winning the auction, citing concerns about affordability for regular Australians. Some labeled the move as arrogant, while others found it difficult to watch the auction due to the significant sums involved.

Despite the criticism, Adrian acquired House 4 for $5 million, leading Steph and Gian to a substantial profit of $1.65 million, plus a prize of $100,000. He continued to display his financial strength by purchasing Kyle and Leslie’s home, which had previously struggled to reach its reserve price. Adrian’s bid of $3.1 million finally secured the sale after a sluggish auction.
